SUPPORT WORKER
ABOUT ME: Hi, I’m Kaitlyn, outside of work, I enjoy staying active and making the most of new experiences. I love going for walks and exploring new places, whether that’s discovering scenic outdoor sports or heading off on small adventures. I have a strong creative side and enjoy painting, reading, and expressing myself through various artistic outlets. I also have a sense of fun and excitement — I love roller coasters and anything that brings a thrill. Animals hold a special place in my heart, and I enjoy spending time at the beach whenever I can. In my spare time, I like experimenting with makeup, cooking new recipes, building Lego creations, and finding new ways to be creative. Overall, I’m someone who values creativity, adventure, and meaningful connections both in my professional and personal life.

EXPIERENCE: I have been employed at Caboolture Special School since 2024 and have thoroughly valued my experience there. I have supported a diverse range of students, each with their own strengths, personalities, and individual needs. Every student I have worked with has brought a unique perspective, and I have found it incredibly rewarding to tailor my support to help them achieve their personal and educational goals. Throughout my role, I have supported both verbal and non-verbal students with a variety of diagnoses and support needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), intellectual disabilities, and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). This experience has strengthened my ability to adapt my communication style and approach depending on each student’s preferred method of communication. I have developed confidence in using visual supports, assistive communication strategies, structured routines, and clear, consistent language to ensure students feel understood and supported. I have gained extensive experience supporting students with complex communication needs and managing behaviours of concern. My role has required me to remain calm, patient, and responsive in high-pressure situations, while prioritising the safety and wellbeing of both students and staff. Over time, I have built a comprehensive toolkit of proactive and reactive strategies, including identifying behavioural triggers, implementing preventative supports, utilising positive behaviour reinforcement, and applying de-escalation techniques when required. My experience as a Teacher Aide in a special school setting has provided me with highly transferable skills that are directly applicable to support work. I have developed strong interpersonal skills, patience, adaptability, and the ability to build trusting relationships with individuals who require consistent and compassionate support. I am confident in implementing individualised support plans, following behaviour support strategies, maintaining clear documentation, and working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Most importantly, I understand the magnitude of dignity, respect, and person-centred care.
