SUPPORT WORKER

ABOUT ME: Hi, I’m Connor  I am an outgoing, friendly, and compassionate person who genuinely enjoys helping others and making a positive difference in their lives. Supporting people with disabilities and advocating for positive mental health is something I am deeply passionate about, and I take pride in building genuine relationships based on trust, respect, and understanding. My mum has worked as a nurse for many years, and watching her dedication to caring for others inspired me to pursue a career where I could have the same positive impact on people's lives. Outside of work, I enjoy living an active lifestyle and play cricket every Saturday, I also love catching up with friends, meeting new people, and getting involved in community activities. My approachable nature, positive attitude, and strong communication skills allow me to build meaningful connections with the people I support, and I believe the best support comes from listening, understanding each person's individual goals, and creating enjoyable experiences that promote confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging.

EXPERIENCE: Since beginning my career in disability support almost 3 years ago, I have gained experience supporting people of all ages with a diverse range of disabilities, complex support needs, and mental health presentations across supported independent living, in-home supports, community access, and outreach settings. I have supported participants with ASD, acquired brain injuries, dementia, physical and intellectual disabilities, complex behaviours, and individuals who are non-verbal or blind. My experience includes personal care, medication supervision, PEG feeding, stoma care, hoisting, community participation, household tasks, behaviour support, implementing Behaviour Support Plans, and maintaining accurate documentation. I have worked with teenagers through to older adults, adapting my approach to each person's individual needs, communication style, and goals. What makes me a strong support worker is my genuine passion for helping people live meaningful and independent lives. I pride myself on being approachable, patient, and respectful, building trusting relationships where participants feel safe, valued, and heard. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to support and enjoy empowering people to build confidence and independence while providing the right level of guidance when needed. With specialised training in PEG feeding, stoma care, hoisting, medication assistance, behaviour support, and person-centred practice. I have developed strong skills in adapting my communication and support approach to suit each participant's individual needs, ensuring they feel respected, heard, and empowered to make their own choices. I remain calm and patient in challenging situations and work collaboratively with participants, families, and multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive outcomes while maintaining a safe and supportive environment. I am committed to ongoing professional development and continuously expanding my knowledge and practical skills.
